Two sitcom oldies resurrected in different form for 2021 TV lineup

Older generations love to use saying such as “that was in the good old days” and “those were classics” when talking about items that were already gone before the younger generation was born. There are two television shows that are directly correlated to “the good old days” and that the new generation can experience first-hand.

The first is a whole new season of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith. This sitcom first aired in 1990 and contained six seasons over six years, going off air in 1996. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was Smith’s first large role in the acting industry. Smith plays himself as a teenager that goes to live with his aunt and uncle in the Bel-Air mansion. Trying to fit in with the higher class, he has trouble letting go of how he used to live. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air won NAACP image award for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series and NAACP image award for outstanding comedy series.

This news got announced on August, 2020, and the new season will not be released until 2021, but with the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 the release date might have to be pushed back. The wait will be worth it, because of Will Smith’s effort to get the original cast for the new season. This contains Alfronso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parson, James Avery and Joseph Marcell. The new season is being produced and will air on HBO-MAX and Peacock.

The next tv show is Saved By the Bell. The first episode in 1989 and stayed on air for four years. Unlike the new season of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, this season of Saved By the Bell will be a spinoff of the original. NBC will be hosting the new seasons. The new show will still contain most of the characters, but some will also be different. Saved By the Bell that aired in the 1989 was nominated for multiple awards including Humane Prize, Daytime Emmy award and Young Artist award.

The new plot is higher class kids clashing with working middle class and lower-class students at their high school. The California governor decides too many underprivilege kids are not able to get the best education in the school system. These two seasons will be ones to remember.

While everyone is stuck at home for foreseeable future, these new shows can help them to stay sane. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is sure to bring about laughs, and Saved By the Bell will get viewers’ blood boiling with the school's rivalry.
