Running for Greatness

The Riverview track season is almost underway, and the men’s team is coming off a stellar 2018-19 season. They sent four runners to districts and sent two of those four on to regionals. Even though the track season is almost underway, the team, just like any other sports team, has been working on setting their goals for the upcoming season. And, there was a runner that was very eager to start his off season and pre-season workouts.

When asked about last season Daniel Lange ’21 was very ecstatic about how the team performed last year.

“We had a pretty good 2018-19 season,” Lange said. “We had a few people carry on to regionals and had most of our team qualify for districts,” Lange continued.

Lange has been running since seventh grade, and now that he is an upperclassman, he is ready to step into a leadership role. “Most of our upperclassmen left,” Lange said. “It is now my turn to become a role model for the underclassmen.”

When inquired about any individual in particular that stood out, Lange said it was best not to single anyone out.

“There is no standout underclassmen to take under my wing. If I were to do this, then the team would become very individualized. In the end, we are a team,” he said.

Prior to pre-season training, Lange also put in some extra time at the gym, improving his strength and his stamina at the same time. Lange also throws discus, so he said increasing his strength helped him “in leaps and bounds.” Lange said to improve his stamina he needed to put himself into high physical stress situations so he could then build up the pain tolerance so that when he is in a race he knows how to execute.

It seems that this runner and discus thrower has his goals set much like the rest of his team.
