The girls’ Varsity volleyball team at Riverview High School was the 2019 regional champs along with 2018 and 2017. The girls were 2016 district champs as well. In this 2019 year of volleyball, fans can see the same team aggression and effort to win, considering the seniors left, leaving last year’s juniors to step up and take charge of their team.
Rams have come out strong with seven wins already out of 11; losing 3 and one getting canceled. The girls have already come up against the Out of Door Academy and left victoriously, along with wins from games against Lakewood Ranch, Port Charlotte, Manatee, Sarasota, Gulf Coast and Venice.
Wins like these are giving the team insight into how to get better, after Cardinal Mooney, Fort Myers and Trinity Catholic beat the Rams.
Chris Ramos ‘20, a student at Riverview High School who has gone to all of the home games said the toughest games can be most fun to watch.
“Some of the games the Varsity plays are complete blowouts with the Rams destroying the other team, which is fun to watch, but when it’s a close game, you can hear people in the stands getting more and more excited,” Ramos said.
This group of girls seems to come together as a team and play like one when they get on the court. The real question is if they have what is takes to take home another regional or district champion in the 2019 season.
For this to happen, they will have to play their hearts out and learn how to overcome the Cardinal Mooney Cougars, Fort Myers and Trinity Catholic.
