Luke Perry was a well-respected actor who grew up in Ohio. After high school, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career which he was adamant about being successful in. Perry landed a role on the 1990 show Beverly Hills, 90210, playing Dylan McKay. He became a teen idol. Girls went crazy over the thought of him, much like Justin Bieber. There was even a riot caused by a bunch of teenage girls who wanted his autograph in the early 90s.
However, on March 4, Perry died at age 52 after suffering from a massive stroke.
He was currently on the popular show Riverdale, which starred Cole Sprouse, KJ Apa, and Lili Reinhart. In this show, he played Archie Andrew’s father. The cast posted pictures remembering him and speaking very highly of his performance, and of how great of a person he was.
Many students and teachers are affected by this tragic event. Alexis Whitmore ‘21, wonders “how the story and the plot of Riverdale is going to play out, and how they will remove his character from the show.”
Riverdale is known for having plot twists and constant changes throughout the show. It will be interesting to see how the writers of the show play this out, and how they will remove his character in a respectful, kind way.
Nick Sanchez ‘19 recalls his mom watching Beverly Hills, 90210 when she was younger.
“Many people loved him, he was a teenage heartthrob!” Sanchez said.
When Perry died, he was surrounded by family and friends who were greatly appreciative of him and the work that he has done.
