The District is starting the spring time off on a happy and healthy note, announcing the first annual Virtual 5k race. Anyone is welcome to participate in Sarasota County School’s ‘Lace Up for Education’ from March 1 to March 31. This is a way for staff, students and families to stay active throughout the month of March, while raising money for the betterment of the district.
Registration is a fee of $35 for participation. This is a great fundraising opportunity for students and our school. Your proceeds will go to the school of your choice. Virtual Strides will mail each person a finisher’s medal designed by a student in the SunCoast Technical College Digital Design Program. The proceeds are estimated to include approximately $10-$12 per registered participant, depending on the number participating.
Registered participants will complete a 5k any time within the month of March. This can be completed on your own accord, and those involved are encouraging to make the most of the run. It can be walked or run at a park, on a treadmill at the gym, or at the track on campus. After completing, the race participants should record their time on the Virtual Strides website. Students are encouraged to get involved, and many are enthusiastic about this simple way of staying active and fundraising.
“I think this is such a great way for members of the school district to participate in a 5k and raise money, but on their own terms. I like the idea of not having to compete in a race, but just to run or walk in my own leisure time,” said Kassi Zarris ‘20.
Students are encouraged to register on the Virtual Strides website—
