Basketball Prepares for Playoffs

The Rams are starting their road to Lakeland earlier than you might expect.

The boys’ basketball team is starting to make its run before the state playoffs start. The boys recently beat Booker, their cross-town rival, in the MLK Day Classic in a close game that came down to last second. This was their first win against the Tornadoes in the past two seasons. This was a big win for the Rams as they look to find something to fuel a run to go deep into the state playoffs.

There are only a few games left in regular season before district play starts. Right now, the Rams are placed second in the district behind Alonso High School, to whom they have lost twice this season.

The team continues to practice five to six times a week to ensure that they are in the best shape possible to win a district championship and a state championship shortly after.

“If we can just keep a positive attitude and trust each other, then we can be very successful in the post season,” Matteo Catena ‘20 said.

The Rams have beaten every team in the county and have earned a lot of respect from local teams. Head Coach BJ Ivey has developed a winning tradition in his years as a coach and has led his team to two district championships in the last three years and one state runner-up. This experience from him as a coach will play a big factor in determining how the Rams can match up with their competition and come out on top.
