Mrs. Wilks was surprised with balloons and flowers by fellow school and district administrators.

Sarasota County School District was happy to announce Mrs. Wilks as the 2019 Assistant Principal of the Year.

This honor is given to a district member who exemplifies the highest standards expected from a school leader. The county recognizes that Mrs. Wilks has been instrumental to the various schools she has served during her tenure within the district, specifically working through challenges with the administrative staff second semester as the acting principal.

Her collaborative work with our hard-working administrators lead to a successful 2017-2018 school year, maintaining Riverview’s standard as an A grade school.

Mrs. Wilks has 20 years of educational experience with Sarasota County Schools, 6 years as a math teacher and 14 years as an administrator. She is an essential member of the administrative staff, as she is the Assistant Principal of Curriculum, dealing with master scheduling, test coordinating, and bettering the staff’s professional learning.

Before assuming this role, she was Assistant Principal at North Port High School, as well as Principal of Brookside Middle School, overseeing the implementation and review of the Middle Years IB Program.

Mrs. Wilks noted, “accepting this honor is a way for me to represent all administrators in the district and the work they do. It helps validate all the hard work we have done here at Riverview. I hope to continue to better our school’s community, once again serving as the Assistant Principal of Curriculum.”

Dr. LaShawn Frost, who was awarded Principal of the Year, and Mrs. Wilks are now both in the running for their respective honors at the state level. FLDOE Commissioner of Education will announce three state-level finalists for each award this coming spring at the Commissioner’s Summit for Principals.
